The E1406DRS is a 6-way consumer unit configured with a dual RCD split-load arrangement and an integrated Type 2 Surge Protection Device (SPD), providing enhanced circuit protection and improved discrimination for domestic and small commercial electrical installations. The dual RCD configuration divides the outgoing circuits across two independent 80A 30mA RCDs — so a fault on one group of circuits does not affect the other group, eliminating the total loss of supply that occurs with a single RCD incomer.

Each RCD protects approximately 3 ways, with the circuits split across two busbars. This arrangement meets BS 7671 (18th Edition) requirements for RCD protection while providing a practical level of discrimination — critical circuits such as lighting and freezers can be placed on separate RCDs to ensure continued operation during an earth fault trip on the other group. The 6-way board is suitable for standard domestic installations.

Installation Notes

This consumer unit must be installed by a qualified electrician in accordance with BS 7671 (18th Edition). Always isolate the supply before installation. Distribute circuits across the two RCD groups to achieve balanced loading and optimum discrimination — place critical circuits (e.g. lighting, alarm, freezer) on a separate RCD group from high-risk circuits (e.g. outdoor sockets, bathroom circuits). The integrated Type 2 SPD provides transient overvoltage protection — check the SPD status indicator periodically and replace the SPD module if the indicator shows red (end of life). Both RCD test buttons should be operated at least quarterly. Mount on a flat, non-combustible surface at a height between 450mm and 1350mm from finished floor level. Fit blanking modules in all unused ways.
