Home EV charger protection kit | Type B 2P RCD 40A + RCBO 32A Type A + Type 2 SPD | For 7kW EV charger circuits
Home EV Charger Protection Kit — Type B RCD + SPD + MCB | Complete 7kW EV Circuit Protection
The Home EV Charger Protection Kit (BUNDLE-EV-HOME) is a complete, single-order solution containing every protective device required to install a compliant 7kW home EV charger circuit in accordance with BS 7671 (18th Edition) and the IET Code of Practice for Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment Installations. This kit eliminates the need to source individual components separately — saving time, reducing errors and ensuring all devices are compatible and correctly rated for a standard domestic single-phase EV charging installation.
The kit includes a Type B 2-pole 40A RCD for DC fault protection (as required by Regulation 722.531.3.101), a 32A Type A RCBO for combined overcurrent and AC/pulsating DC earth leakage protection on the dedicated EV charger circuit, and a Type 2 1P+N SPD for transient overvoltage protection (as required by Amendment 2, Regulation 443). Together, these three devices provide comprehensive protection for the EV charger, the vehicle’s onboard electronics and the building’s electrical installation.
Designed for UK electricians and OZEV-approved EV charger installers, this kit covers the most common domestic installation scenario: a single-phase 7kW (32A) EV charger supplied from a consumer unit or dedicated EV distribution board. All components are UKCA certified and manufactured to the relevant IEC/EN standards.
Kit Contents
- 1× Type B 2-Pole RCD 40A 30mA/6mA DC (DGL2-B-EV) — detects AC, pulsating DC and smooth DC residual currents including 6mA DC fault detection as required by IEC 62955 for EV charging
- 1× Type A RCBO 32A 30mA (DGB1NLE-A) — combined MCB + RCD providing overcurrent, short-circuit and AC/pulsating DC earth leakage protection on the dedicated EV circuit
- 1× Type 2 SPD 1P+N 20kA (DSPD-20-1PN) — surge protection device protecting the EV charger and vehicle electronics against transient overvoltages
Key Features
- Complete EV circuit protection in one order — all three required protective devices included
- Type B RCD with 6mA DC detection — satisfies BS 7671 Regulation 722.531.3.101 without additional DC detection modules

Installation Notes
All kit components must be installed by a qualified electrician in accordance with BS 7671 (18th Edition) Section 722 and the IET Code of Practice for EV Charging Equipment Installations. Always isolate the supply before installation. Install the Type B RCD upstream of the EV charger circuit as a main protective device. Connect the 32A Type A RCBO on the dedicated EV charger circuit outgoing from the consumer unit or EV distribution board. Install the Type 2 SPD at the incomer position with connections kept as short as possible (≤500mm total lead length). The EV charger must be supplied on a dedicated circuit — no other loads should share the EV charger RCBO. All RCD and RCBO test buttons should be operated at least quarterly after commissioning.
