The DSPD-20 is a Type 2 (T2) Surge Protection Device (SPD) in a compact 1-pole + neutral (1P+N) configuration, designed to protect electrical installations against transient overvoltages caused by lightning strikes, switching operations and other electromagnetic disturbances. Installed at the consumer unit main incomer position, this SPD clamps surge voltages before they can damage sensitive electronic equipment, appliances and building wiring.

BS 7671 (18th Edition) Amendment 2 (2022) introduced Regulation 443.4, which effectively requires surge protection on virtually all new domestic installations and consumer unit upgrades where the cost of the SPD is not disproportionate to the value of the equipment being protected. Installation Notes

This SPD must be installed by a qualified electrician in accordance with BS 7671 (18th Edition). Always isolate the supply before installation. Install the SPD at the consumer unit main incomer position, connected between line, neutral and earth. The SPD should be protected by an upstream MCB or fuse rated as specified in BS EN 61643-11 (typically 32A–40A). Keep SPD connection cables as short as possible (maximum 500mm total lead length recommended) to minimise voltage let-through. Check the visual status indicator periodically — a red indicator means the SPD has reached end of life and must be replaced. The SPD is a sacrificial device designed to degrade after absorbing surge energy and must be replaced when the indicator shows red.
