Metal Garage Consumer Unit — 5-Way Empty Enclosure

The EMGU05 is a 5-way metal garage consumer unit supplied as an empty enclosure, ready for the installer to populate with the MCBs, RCDs or RCBOs required for the specific installation. Constructed from powder-coated galvanised steel with a lockable hinged door, this unit is designed for outbuilding, garage and workshop electrical installations where a compact, robust distribution board is needed.

The metal construction provides enhanced fire resistance compared to plastic enclosures and is the standard specified by BS 7671 (18th Edition) for consumer units in domestic premises. The 5-way board accommodates up to 5 single-pole MCBs or equivalent devices and is equipped with a 35mm DIN rail, neutral bar and earth bar as standard. Cable entry is from the top and bottom via knockouts, and the unit accepts standard M20 and M25 cable glands.

Installation Notes

This consumer unit must be installed by a qualified electrician in accordance with BS 7671 (18th Edition). Always isolate the supply before installation. The installer is responsible for specifying and fitting the appropriate incomer device (main switch, RCD or RCBO) and outgoing MCBs or RCBOs for the circuits being supplied. The unit should be mounted on a flat, non-combustible surface at a height between 450mm and 1350mm from finished floor level (Part M accessibility requirements).
